The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has unveiled its 2024 annual report, detailing significant strides in crime reduction and security operations across the territory.
In a statement posted on its official X page yesterday, the command disclosed that from January to December 2024, a total of 1,426 cases were reported, leading to the arrest of 1,077 suspects.
Among the reported cases, 104 kidnapping incidents resulted in the arrest of 216 suspects. Additionally, 268 armed robbery cases led to 132 arrests, while 263 ‘one-chance’ robbery incidents saw 71 suspects apprehended.
Cybercrime remained relatively minimal, with 32 cases reported and 15 arrests made.
Homicide cases totalled 68, resulting in 78 arrests, while 73 burglary incidents led to the arrest of 20 suspects.

Fraud emerged as the most reported crime, with 385 cases leading to the arrest of 422 suspects.
Cultism and car theft were also prominent, with 38 cultism cases resulting in 59 arrests and 127 car theft cases leading to 64 suspects being apprehended.
The Command’s Complaint Response Unit also addressed 68 cases of police misconduct during the year, reflecting efforts to maintain accountability within the force.
In rescue operations, the police freed 68 kidnapping victims and 19 victims of a ‘one-chance’ robbery.

On the prosecution front, the Command secured 21 convictions in kidnapping cases, 11 in ‘one-chance’ robbery cases, and 58 in fraud-related cases, highlighting its commitment to justice.
The year also saw significant recoveries, with 376 firearms confiscated, including 13 AK-47 magazines and 187 rounds of live ammunition.
Financial recoveries totalled N409,992,000, retrieved from crimes such as kidnapping, robbery, and fraud. The police also recovered 99 stolen vehicles linked to various criminal activities.
These achievements contributed to a 15.1 per cent reduction in crime incidents within the FCT compared to 2023, signalling improved safety and security.
However, the year was not without its sacrifices, as the command mourned the loss of 140 officers who died in the line of duty.
Looking ahead, the command outlined its key priorities for 2025 which include intensified community policing engagements, enhanced intelligence-led operations, targeted clearance of criminal hideouts, and increased public awareness of security measures.
The command further appreciated the Minister of the FCT, Nyesom Wike, residents, sister security agencies, the media, Civil Society Organisations, vigilante groups, and community policing stakeholders for their unwavering support throughout the year.
Reaffirming its dedication to safeguarding the territory, the command promised to continue working tirelessly to ensure the safety and security of all residents in the FCT.
