Troops of the Joint Task Force Operation FANSAN YAMMA have carried out a precision airstrike that reportedly neutralised several terrorists during an operation targeting a high-level gathering of terrorist commanders in Zamfara State.
According to the military, the operation was conducted on May 10, 2026, after intelligence reports revealed that notorious terrorist leaders from different parts of the West African sub-region had assembled at a hidden location in Tumfa Village, located in Shinkafi Local Government Area of Zamfara State.
The development was disclosed in a statement released on Monday by the Media Information Officer of Operation FANSAN YAMMA, Lt. Col. Aliyu Danja.
The military explained that the gathering took place inside a concealed structure situated on the northern edge of the village. According to the statement, the hideout was strategically hidden within a densely vegetated area and shielded by thick mango trees along a stream channel, making detection difficult.
Security officials said intelligence indicated that the meeting was organised to coordinate fresh attacks and criminal operations against communities across Nigeria’s North-West region.
Acting on the intelligence, Sector 2 of Operation FANSAN YAMMA, in collaboration with the Air Component, launched what the military described as a precision strike on the identified location.
“The strike successfully destroyed the structure, which served as the terrorists’ meeting point,” the statement said.
The military further disclosed that a Battle Damage Assessment carried out after the operation confirmed that several terrorists were killed during the airstrike, while others escaped from the scene in confusion.

According to the statement, subsequent aerial surveillance operations also detected suspected terrorist associates attempting to evacuate casualties from the area following the attack.
Ground troops were said to have continued clearance and exploitation operations around the affected location in an effort to track fleeing terrorists and strengthen operational gains achieved during the mission.
Although the military did not immediately disclose the identities or number of those killed, it stated that additional information regarding the operation would be made public later.
The Theatre Command reiterated its commitment to intensifying operations against terrorists, bandits and other criminal groups threatening peace and security in the North-West region.
It also appealed to residents to continue supporting security agencies by providing timely and credible intelligence capable of assisting ongoing counter-terrorism efforts.
The latest operation comes amid continued military offensives targeting armed groups operating across Zamfara and neighbouring states, where security forces have intensified aerial and ground operations in recent months.
