The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) on Wednesday, May 6, 2026, criticised Minister Nyesom Wike over comments he made at a media event, saying his remarks were inappropriate and misleading.
The party, through its National Publicity Secretary, Comrade Ini Ememobong, said the statement was issued to clarify its position and address concerns raised by Nigerians.
The PDP, in a press statement released on Wednesday, said Nigerians “were treated to an unsolicited overdosage of political rascality” during the minister’s media appearance.

It accused Wike of using the platform to attack other public figures without restraint.
The PDP said the event amounted to nothing and maintained that it did not intend to engage directly with the minister’s comments.
Instead, the party said it was offering “a profuse apology to Nigerians” for previously giving him opportunities to serve in leadership roles.
The statement noted that Wike had benefited from positions such as chairman, minister, and governor through the party.
The party expressed regret, saying those decisions may have contributed to damage to public trust.
The party also urged individuals who felt defamed by the minister’s remarks to take legal action, stressing that no one should be above the law and that due process should be followed.
On internal party matters, the PDP said Wike’s ambition to become a national leader was misplaced.
The PDP stated clearly that “no such office exists” in their constitution and said that even if it did, his conduct would not qualify him for the role.
The party linked the minister’s reaction to ongoing political activities, including the sale of nomination forms and preparations for primaries and a national convention.
The PDP noted that these steps would lead to the emergence of a presidential candidate and suggested that Wike was frustrated by developments he could not control.
Addressing claims made by the minister about financial institutions, the PDP dismissed them as false, saying the party already operates functional bank accounts and that its activities remain unaffected.
The statement also touched on a recent court matter mentioned by Wike. The party said it was awaiting official court documents and challenged the minister to provide details of the legal issues he referenced.
The PDP assured Nigerians that it remains focused on its plans and would not be distracted.
While false claims may spread quickly, the party said “they will not reduce the efficacy of the truth when it arrives.”
