Veteran filmmaker and CEO of Wale Adenuga Productions, Wale Adenuga, has refuted claims by actor Abiodun Ayoyinka, popularly known as Papa Ajasco, that he is financially struggling.
Ayoyinka had sparked online discussions after alleging financial difficulties despite his long-standing role in the iconic TV series Papa Ajasco and Company. In response, Adenuga described the narrative as “false and misleading” and provided context on his professional relationship with the actor.
“My first impression when I watched the trending Papa Ajasco video was that he had taken the comedy into the public space,” Adenuga said. “I am happy for him, as his money-making strategy using social media has apparently worked for him.”
Adenuga praised Ayoyinka as a “versatile actor” closely resembling the original character he created in 1976, and noted that there had been no irreconcilable differences between them. He highlighted Ayoyinka’s prior career as a civil servant with the Lagos State Government. Adenuga added that the company had supported the actor over the years, including providing cars and a home in Ogun State.
Addressing claims of neglect, Adenuga emphasised that actors were free to pursue external work, provided they sought approval to protect the Papa Ajasco brand. He also questioned Ayoyinka’s assertion of financial hardship, noting his gratuities and investments from decades of service with the state government.
“The organisation pays according to industry standards and ensures all financial obligations are fulfilled. Any narrative suggesting financial abandonment or exploitation by our organisation is entirely false and misleading,” Adenuga added.
He reaffirmed the company’s commitment to professional relationships and thanked the public for its continued support.
