Operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Enugu Zonal Directorate, have arrested a man, Ifeanyi Mba, over an alleged ₦10 million land fraud in Enugu State.
The anti-graft agency disclosed that the suspect was arrested following a petition filed by a victim who accused him of fraudulently selling a piece of land located at Plot 677, Owo/Premier Layout in the Ogui Nike community.
According to the petitioner, he paid Mba the sum of ₦10 million for the property but later discovered that unknown persons had already begun developing the land.
The petitioner said when he contacted the suspect to question the development on the property, Mba allegedly informed him that the land belonged to the government.
“He said he was later informed by the suspect that the said property was government-owned,” the commission said.
The EFCC further stated that attempts by the petitioner to recover his money from the suspect were unsuccessful, as Mba allegedly went incommunicado.
Preliminary investigations by the anti-graft agency revealed discrepancies surrounding the location of the land.
“Investigations by the commission showed that there is no layout bearing Plot 677 Owo/Premier within government-acquired areas and that Owo Layout and Premier Layout are two separate layouts,” the EFCC said.
The commission added that the suspect would be charged to court upon the conclusion of investigations.
