The Lagos State Government has dismissed reports claiming that Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has been asked to resign on health grounds, describing the story as false.

In a statement issued on Monday, the governor’s media aide, Gboyega Akosile, said there was no truth in the report which alleged that the deputy governor was set to take over leadership of the state.
The government said the claim, published by Sahara Reporters, was misleading and should be ignored by the public.

According to the statement, the governor is in good health, mentally sound, and fully carrying out his duties.
The statement said, “There is no basis for the claim. The governor remains active and committed to his responsibilities.”
The government also clarified that the deputy governor, Kadri Obafemi Hamzat, visited the governor earlier in the day for a formal discussion regarding his political ambition.
It explained that the meeting was a routine consultation, where Hamzat informed the governor of his intention to contest the 2027 governorship election in the state.
Officials described the meeting as peaceful and in line with normal political practice.
The state government said it decided to respond to the report to prevent confusion among residents, even though it would normally ignore such claims.
It accused the platform of spreading false information and urged the public to rely on verified sources for accurate updates.
It added, “The report is fake and should be disregarded.”
The government assured residents that governance in the state is not affected and that all official activities are continuing without disruption.
It also called on Lagosians to remain calm and not be distracted by unverified reports circulating online.
