Nollywood has recorded another major box office milestone as Oversabi Aunty officially crossed the ₦1 billion mark in cinema earnings, securing its place as the fourth highest-grossing Nollywood film of all time.
The achievement was announced by the film’s distributor, FilmOne, in a celebratory Instagram post on Monday. According to the post, Oversabi Aunty has so far earned a total of ₦1,017,201,953 from cinemas across West Africa, further underlining the growing commercial strength of the Nigerian film industry.
Beyond its impressive earnings, the milestone also makes Oversabi Aunty the first Nollywood film from a directorial debut to cross the ₦1 billion mark, setting a new record and raising the bar for first-time directors in the industry.

In its post, FilmOne thanked audiences across the region for their overwhelming support, describing the achievement as a “full celebration” and a significant win not just for the filmmakers, but for Nollywood as a whole.
“This is a full celebration,” the distributor wrote, acknowledging cinema-goers whose turnout and word-of-mouth helped push the film past the historic figure.
The announcement sparked widespread excitement and celebration on social media, with actors, fans, and industry watchers flooding comment sections with congratulatory messages.
Popular actress Adesua Etomi-Wellington reacted with an enthusiastic “Yassssss.” At the same time, a fan identified as #stunnurse1 highlighted the record-breaking nature of the feat, writing, “That’s true ooo, first directorial debut to hit a billion.”
Another user, #tung_styn, praised the achievement as extraordinary, saying, “Can there be two queens pls… THIS is beyond extraordinary. God bless her and her supporters.”
Other fans also shared their excitement, with #olaniyielizabeth_ posting, “Somebody hold me…,” and #lammie_artt adding, “Yayyyyyyy! Body dey sweet me.” Another user, #kingdi_allijnr, encouraged cinema-goers to keep the momentum going, writing, “WELDONE WB LETS TOP IT UP BEFORE IT LEAVES CINEMA.”
Earlier reports showed that Oversabi Aunty was already on a record-breaking path, having grossed over ₦711 million within just 18 days of its cinema run. That early performance placed it firmly among Nollywood’s highest-grossing films even before it crossed the ₦1 billion milestone.
Industry observers say the success of Oversabi Aunty reflects Nollywood’s expanding audience, improved distribution, and growing appetite for locally produced stories that connect strongly with viewers.
