Former Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami, has rejected what he described as a sustained media trial following his detention by the Department of State Services (DSS).
He dismissed reports alleging that security operatives uncovered weapons or evidence of terrorism financing at his residence, describing the claims as false and misleading.
In a statement issued on Wednesday by his Special Assistant on Media, Mohammed Doka, Malami addressed widely circulated reports suggesting that a cache of arms was discovered during recent searches of his properties.
Doka explained that the clarification followed Malami’s arrest by the DSS on Monday, shortly after he was granted bail in an unrelated legal matter.

He described the allegations as “false, unsubstantiated and unsupported by any official record or judicial disclosure”.
“We categorically reject claims that any cache of arms or ammunition was discovered in any residence linked to Abubakar Malami,” Doka said.
“No such discovery has been formally communicated to his family or legal representatives.”
Doka also raised concerns over Malami’s welfare, stating that since his arrest on Monday, he has been denied access to his legal team, family and associates.
He argued that the prolonged isolation violates Malami’s constitutionally guaranteed rights and undermines the principle of the presumption of innocence.
The statement further dismissed any suggestion of links to terrorism or terrorism financing, describing such claims as speculative, irresponsible and lacking specific details, dates or verifiable evidence.
Doka linked the current legal pressure to Malami’s political ambitions.
Malami, a prominent chieftain of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), has declared his intention to contest the Kebbi State governorship election in 2027.
According to Doka, the timing of the allegations raises concerns about possible political undertones, stressing that legal processes must remain insulated from partisan interests.

Expressing concern over the emotional toll on Malami’s family and staff, Doka urged media organisations to distinguish between unverified allegations and established facts, and to refrain from conducting trials by headlines that could prejudice public opinion.
He called on all parties to allow the rule of law and due process to take their natural course.
