A group within the All Progressives Congress (APC) has called on the national leadership of the party to urgently intervene in the deepening political crisis rocking the party in Rivers State, warning that failure to act could expose the ruling party to public embarrassment and weaken its internal cohesion.
In a strongly worded statement issued on Monday, the group expressed concern over what it described as the “unfortunate path” taken by the legislative arm of government in the state, noting that the development poses serious risks to the stability and survival of the party at the state level.
According to the statement, the unfolding situation has the potential to undermine the credibility of the APC in Rivers State if decisive action is not taken by the party’s leadership at the national level.
“This regrettable course adopted by the legislative arm represents a dangerous footnote in the political history of the APC in Rivers State and raises serious questions about the health and future survival of the party,” the group said.

The group stressed that internal disagreements, if left unchecked, could erode party discipline and public confidence, particularly at a time when the APC is positioning itself for future electoral contests. It therefore urged the party’s leadership to act swiftly to prevent further escalation of the crisis.
In addition to its appeal to party leaders, the group also called on the Honourable Chief Judge of Rivers State to respect and comply with an existing court order. It referenced an interim injunction issued in Suit No: OYHC/7/CS/2026, which reportedly restrains the Chief Judge from receiving or acting on resolutions emanating from the Rivers State House of Assembly pending the determination of the suit.
The group maintained that adherence to the rule of law was critical to preserving democratic order and preventing a breakdown of constitutional processes in the state.
“We call on the Honourable Chief Judge of Rivers State to uphold the sanctity of the judiciary by respecting the interim injunction, which clearly restrains any action on resolutions passed by the Rivers State House of Assembly until the matter is fully resolved by the court,” the statement added.
Furthermore, the group appealed directly to the national leadership of the All Progressives Congress to immediately activate the internal mechanisms available to it under the party’s constitution. Specifically, it cited Article 21(b)(iii) of the 2022 APC Constitution (as amended), which empowers the National Working Committee to intervene in disputes that threaten the unity and stability of the party.
According to the group, the prompt invocation of these provisions would help de-escalate tensions, restore internal order, and protect the party from avoidable reputational damage.
“We urge the National Working Committee to act without delay by deploying the conflict-resolution mechanisms provided in the party’s constitution to save our dear party from an embarrassing and avoidable situation,” it stated.
The group concluded by emphasising that the APC’s strength lies in its internal cohesion and respect for constitutional processes, warning that prolonged inaction could have far-reaching political consequences for the party in Rivers State and beyond.
