The National Executive Council (NEC) of the Accord Party has approved the formation of a Caretaker Committee for its Osun State chapter, appointing Pastor Victor Akande as chairman, as the party intensifies preparations for the 2026 governorship election in the state.
The decision, announced yesterday, follows the expiration of the tenure of the previous state leadership. The NEC expressed full confidence in the new committee’s ability to steer the party towards victory in the forthcoming contest.

In addition to the caretaker committee, the NEC approved the Electoral Guidelines that will govern the conduct of the Osun State gubernatorial primaries.
It also constituted a dedicated Electoral Committee to oversee the transparent and credible selection of the party’s flagbearer.
In a move aimed at broadening its appeal, the NEC granted a general waiver to numerous high-profile Nigerians who recently defected to Accord, clearing the way for them to seek elective positions on the party’s platform without the usual membership duration requirements.
The party further approved the establishment of Women and Youth Directorates at every level national, zonal, state, local government, ward, and polling unit to strengthen grassroots mobilisation and membership drive across the country.
In the spirit of reconciliation and unity, Accord lifted the suspension earlier imposed on some members in Osun State, emphasising its commitment to “Oneness and Progress” as it gears up for the governorship race.

The NEC rounded off its deliberations by passing a unanimous vote of confidence in the national leadership of Barrister Maxwell Mgbudem, commending his stewardship and strategic direction.
Sources from the party described the resolutions as a clear demonstration of Accord’s readiness to present a formidable challenge in Osun State and beyond.
“We are not just participating; we are coming to win,” a senior official told journalists after the meeting.
