Adebayo Olugbenga Adedamola has emerged as the governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for the forthcoming gubernatorial election in Osun State.
Adedamola polled a total of 919 votes to emerge victorious at the party’s primary held on Tuesday at Adolak Hall in Osogbo, the state capital.
His emergency came after Ademola Adeleke, whose name had initially been listed for the contest, officially resigned from the PDP ahead of the exercise.
Adeleke resigned his membership from the PDP on Monday with immediate effect, ending his long association with the party that brought him to power in 2018 and again in 2022.
In a terse resignation letter dated November 4, 2025, and addressed to the PDP Ward 2 Chairman, Sagba-Abogunde, of Ede North Local Government Area, the governor cited the protracted leadership crisis at the national level as the primary reason for his departure.
“Due to the current crisis within the national leadership of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), I hereby resign my membership of the PDP with immediate effect,” the letter read.
Adeleke, who personally signed the document made public yesterday by his spokesperson, Mallam Olawale Rasheed, expressed gratitude to the PDP for the platform that enabled him to serve as Senator for Osun West (2015–2019) and twice as governor.
