Renowned Nigerian evangelist and spiritual leader, Rev. Dr. Uma Ukpai of the Uma Ukpai Evangelistic Association, has died at the age of 80. His family confirmed his passing on Monday, stating he died on 6 October 2025.
Describing his death as a “glorious transition” from a life of devoted service to eternal rest, the family honoured Ukpai’s six decades of ministry marked by evangelism, dynamic teaching, and prophetic demonstrations of God’s power.
Widely recognised as a spiritual general and founding father of faith, Ukpai’s work impacted millions in Nigeria and beyond. His fiery campaigns and mentorship shaped spiritual growth across generations.
“He was a faithful soldier of the cross who devoted his life to spreading the gospel with passion and integrity,” the family said, noting that his legacy of teachings and prophetic insights will continue to inspire believers.
Ukpai was also celebrated as a loving husband, devoted father, and mentor to many. His ministry extended beyond preaching to empowering both clergy and lay leaders.
The family expressed gratitude for his life and assured the public that funeral arrangements would be announced in due course.
Rev. Dr. Uma Ukpai’s ministry leaves a lasting spiritual and social legacy through churches, educational programmes, and humanitarian efforts that continue to impact communities worldwide.
His life exemplified the biblical truth: “to live is Christ, and to die is gain” (Philippians 1:21).
