The Benue State Government has directed its state-owned transport company, Benue Links Nigeria Limited, to implement a 50% reduction in transport fares for all Persons with Special Needs (PWSNs).
The policy aims to promote inclusivity and reduce the financial burden on PWSNs using public transportation.
Alexander Fanafa, the General Manager of Benue Links, announced the directive over the weekend in Makurdi.
He stressed that the move reflects Governor Hyacinth Alia’s proactive commitment to supporting the community.

“The governor has been responsive and proactive in attending to the transportation needs of the people of Benue and beyond”, Fanafa said.
He explained that the discount is a testament to the Governor’s commitment to ensuring that PWSNs are given a sense of belonging in society.
Fanafa emphasised that in addition to the reduced fare, PWSNs “will be granted preferential treatment when travelling with our vehicles.”
He also highlighted the transportation company’s growth under the current administration.
Fanafa noted that the company, which once relied heavily on leased vehicles, received 100 buses donated by Alia in November 2023.
Since then, Benue Links has sustained that fleet, purchased 10 buses, and acquired 10 sedan cars for taxi services.
Fanafa added that the company’s expansion and competitive pricing have positively influenced the entire transportation sector, compelling private operators to lower their fares, which ultimately benefits all commuters.
