The Ekiti State Commissioner for Health and Human Services, Dr. Oyebanji Filani, has condemned in strong terms the assault on medical personnel at the Ekiti State University Teaching Hospital (EKSUTH), Ado-Ekiti, describing the incident as disturbing and unacceptable.
Some victims of an accident, who were receiving treatment at the hospital on Friday, allegedly turned violent and physically attacked doctors and nurses on duty.
According to the document shared on Sunday, the health commissioner said the matter has since been reported to the police for investigation.
Dr. Filani noted that healthcare workers endure difficult conditions to save lives and should never be subjected to intimidation or physical harm.

He stressed that hospitals are centres of healing, not venues for aggression, adding that such actions threaten the delivery of quality medical services in the state.
“An attack on them is not only an attack on individuals but a threat to our collective well-being and access to timely, quality healthcare,” the Commissioner said, assuring that those found culpable will be prosecuted.
He urged members of the public to exercise patience in moments of distress and channel grievances through lawful means.
The Commissioner further stated that the state government, under Governor Biodun Oyebanji, is working with security agencies and the hospital management to strengthen safety measures across health facilities in Ekiti.
He reaffirmed government’s commitment to protecting both patients and medical staff, warning that violence would never resolve challenges in the health sector.
