Prominent human rights activist Deji Adeyanju has stated he would vote for President Bola Tinubu in the 2027 presidential election if the opposition coalition, the African Democratic Congress (ADC), nominates Peter Obi as its candidate.
Adeyanju made the statement on Friday during an interview on Channels Television’s Morning Brief.
“God forbid that I support APC. If the opposition presents Peter Obi, I will vote for Tinubu,” he said, in response to a question about his critical stance towards Obi.

Adeyanju, a lawyer, has been in a public feud with Obi, which has escalated, with Obi’s legal team recently threatening to sue Adeyanju for alleged defamatory statements.
Adeyanju, however, said he is ready to face the politician in court.
Adeyanju accused Obi of fostering a negative political climate, citing the behaviour of some of his “Obidient” supporters online.
He claimed that these supporters “terrorise people online” and are intolerant of criticism, often accusing those who do not back their candidate of being enemies of Nigeria or being paid. “That is not democracy,” he argued.
He also questioned Obi’s commitment to democracy, suggesting he has not made the same sacrifices as other activists.
“What sacrifices has he made for democracy?” Adeyanju asked, stressing the need to sanitise the political landscape from individuals who use online mobs to dictate political discourse.
Reflecting on his past voting record, Adeyanju said he has consistently supported what he considered credible candidates.
