Edo State Governor Godwin Obaseki has lost his local government area (LGA) to Monday Okpebholo, the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate, in the state’s governorship election.
The Cable newspaper reported that Mr Okpebholo won Mr Obaseki’s Oredo LGA with 30,780 votes.
According to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Mr Okpebholo defeated Mr Obaseki’s PDP candidate, Asue Ighodalo who polled 24,938. Olumide Akpata of the LP scored 5,389.
As of press time, election results from 17 of the state’s 18 local government areas have been collated, with only Ikpoba-Okha LGA results pending.
INEC’s announced results indicate that Mr Okpebholo leads the overall tally with 275,329 votes, followed by Mr Ighodalo with 220,892 votes, and Mr Akpata with 18,737 votes.
