The Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Kayode Egbetokun, has condemned the incident that led to the tragic loss of a 14-year-old boy, Kehinde Alade, who was hit by a stray bullet while heading to write the West African Examinations Council (WAEC) in Oyo State.
According to the police spokesperson, Olumuyiwa Adejobi, in a statement on Wednesday, Egbetokun has directed a full investigation into the matter, as the officer involved in the incident has been taken into custody.
“In a separate development, the Inspector-General of Police has ordered a comprehensive investigation into a tragic incident in Oyo State involving personnel of the Oyo State Police Command and the Oyo State Traffic Management Authority (OYTMA), which led to the unfortunate demise of a 14-year-old boy, Kehinde Alade,” Adejobi noted.

While sympathizing with the family of the late 14-year-old boy, Egbetokun assured the public that the investigation process will be transparent and that their findings will be made public. He also reaffirmed that justice will be served.
Similarly, the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) condemned a mob attack on its officers, which occurred on Monday at Okhuimwun Community, Ovia North-East LGA of Edo State.
Officers from the Force Intelligence Department – Intelligence Response Team (FID-IRT) were said to be en route from Lagos as they passed through the state when a mob blocked the road near the University of Benin (UNIBEN) and violently attacked them with stones and sticks.
Despite the assault, the police exercised restraint and did not retaliate.
The two officers who sustained serious injuries are receiving medical care and are in stable condition.
Meanwhile, the police warned against attacks on law enforcement personnel and said investigations are underway, with legal action promised against the perpetrators.
“The Nigeria Police Force reiterates its commitment to the protection of lives and property and urges citizens to remain law-abiding and to channel grievances through lawful and peaceful means,” the spokesperson added.
