Controversial Nigerian singer Speed Darlington has openly criticised President Bola Tinubu over the country’s economic challenges, questioning his suitability for a second term in office.
In a video shared on his Instagram page on Wednesday, the outspoken entertainer faulted Tinubu’s administration, citing rising hardship, insecurity, and what he described as policy failures since the president assumed office in 2023.

Speed Darlington argued that the current economic realities facing Nigerians do not support another term for the president, insisting that the administration has failed to address critical national issues.
“You are here breaking your neck to become the next President of Nigeria but you’re not qualified to be President again,” he said.
The singer particularly criticised the removal of the fuel subsidy, one of the first major economic policies introduced by the Tinubu administration shortly after taking office.
According to him, the decision triggered severe economic consequences because petroleum products influence virtually every aspect of life in Nigeria, including transportation, food prices, and the general cost of living.
“When you came to office in 2023, the first thing you did was remove the subsidy, knowing very well that everything about Nigerian life is attached to petroleum,” he stated.
He further alleged that the policy created opportunities for excessive fuel price increases, which he claimed worsened the financial burden on ordinary Nigerians.
“Giving those in the oil section thousands of reasons to inflate fuel price, knowing fully well that Nigerians are naturally greedy,” he added.
Since the subsidy removal, Nigerians have continued to grapple with high transportation costs, inflation, and increased prices of goods and services.
While the federal government has defended the decision as necessary for long-term economic reforms, critics argue that the effects have placed significant hardship on citizens.
Beyond economic concerns, Speed Darlington also accused the administration of failing to adequately tackle insecurity across the country.
He claimed the government had not shown enough effectiveness in addressing the growing security challenges affecting different regions.
“You haven’t done anything about the rising insecurity across Nigeria,” he said.
The singer went on to warn that another term under the current administration would be disastrous for Nigerians, describing the prospect as “hellfire”.
His comments add to the growing list of public figures and celebrities speaking out about governance and economic conditions in Nigeria.
In recent years, entertainers have increasingly used their platforms to comment on national issues, reflecting frustrations shared by many citizens over inflation, unemployment, and insecurity.
While some Nigerians applauded Speed Darlington for voicing concerns about the economy, others criticised his remarks, arguing that governance issues are more complex than he presented.
President Tinubu’s administration has repeatedly maintained that its economic reforms are aimed at stabilising the economy and creating long-term growth, despite the short-term difficulties being experienced by citizens.
Government officials have also argued that subsidy removal was necessary to reduce financial strain on public resources and redirect funds toward development projects.
However, the reforms have remained controversial, with many Nigerians expressing dissatisfaction over the rising cost of living and the pace of economic recovery.
Speed Darlington, known for his controversial and often blunt commentary, has frequently used social media to address political and social issues.
His latest remarks have continued to generate reactions online, especially as discussions around Nigeria’s political future and the 2027 elections gradually intensify.
Although the presidency has not officially responded to his comments, the video has further fuelled public debate over the performance of the current administration and the direction of the country’s economy.
