Former Labour Party (LP) Presidential candidate, Peter Obi, has raised alarm over Nigeria’s direction under the administration of Bola Tinubu, saying the country is “heading to disaster.”
He spoke on Tuesday at the national convention of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), where he called for urgent action and national unity.
Addressing party members and stakeholders at the convention, Obi said Nigeria is becoming more divided and warned that the situation could worsen if nothing is done.
He stressed the need for citizens to come together to save the country.
“We need to work as a united Nigeria for the sake of Nigeria. The country is so divided. We need unity,” he said.
He added that the current government has deepened divisions across the nation.
Obi warned that the country is on a dangerous path and urged Nigerians to take responsibility.
“Your country is collapsing, and if you allow it to go further, it will be worse,” he said.
On security, Obi said Nigeria’s position in global terrorism rankings has worsened since the present administration took office.
He noted that the country moved from eighth to fourth position.

“If you give it another four years, we will be number one. That is definite,” he said.
Speaking on poverty, Obi cited data he attributed to the World Bank. He said the poverty rate increased from 41.6 percent, affecting about 88 million people, to 63 percent, or about 140 million people.
“They have almost doubled that,” he said.
He also criticised the rising public debt. Obi said Nigeria’s debt grew from about ₦87 trillion at the end of the previous government to nearly ₦200 trillion under the current administration.
He argued that this increase goes against the purpose of removing fuel subsidy.
“When subsidy was removed, the aim was to reduce borrowing and use the funds for development. But today, we have borrowed more. That is not removing subsidy.”
Obi further claimed that many government projects remain unfunded and that contractors are being owed, which he said shows poor financial management.
“We are heading to disaster. The reason why I use these short figures is to show you we are drifting,” he said.
He warned that continued decline could lead to serious consequences for all citizens, urging Nigerians to act together to prevent further crises and rebuild the country.
