The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has confirmed that the third and final phase of the nationwide Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise will resume on Monday, 11th May 2026.
In a press statement issued on Tuesday, 5th May 2026, the Commission explained that the second phase of the CVR was suspended on 17th April 2026 to enable the clean-up of the voter register following its publication for claims and objections.
The upcoming final phase is designed to give eligible Nigerians one last opportunity to register ahead of the 2027 general elections.
According to INEC, the third phase will run from Monday, 11th May 2026, to Friday, 10th July 2026. During this period, citizens who have attained the age of 18 years, as well as those who missed earlier phases due to various reasons, are urged to register without delay.

The Commission also encouraged already registered voters who wish to transfer their details to a new polling unit, replace lost or damaged Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs), or make corrections to their biodata to take advantage of the exercise.
Nigerians can initiate the process through the dedicated online portal at cvr.inecnigeria.org or by visiting INEC State and Local Government Area offices across the country.
Following the conclusion of registration, INEC will display the updated Register of Voters for public scrutiny from Thursday, 23rd July 2026, to Wednesday, 29th July 2026. This statutory claims and objections period allows citizens to verify their details, raise objections where necessary, and assist the Commission in maintaining an accurate, complete, and credible voter register.
INEC reassured the public that all logistical arrangements have been finalised for a smooth and efficient exercise. The Commission appealed to all eligible citizens, particularly young people who have recently turned 18, to participate actively and contribute to strengthening Nigeria’s democratic process.

The CVR forms part of INEC’s ongoing efforts to update the national voter register in preparation for the 2027 presidential, gubernatorial, and legislative elections.
Mohammed Kudu Haruna, Chairman of the Information and Voter Education Committee, signed the statement on behalf of the Commission.
With the 2027 elections drawing closer and recent political realignments making headlines, including speculation around major opposition figures, INEC’s timely resumption of registration is seen as a critical step towards ensuring every eligible Nigerian has a voice in the democratic process.
