Members of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Rivers State have called for the resignation of the Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Joash Ojo Amupitan, citing concerns over the credibility of the electoral body.
The party made its position known in a statement on Wednesday, describing the demand as a unified decision of its leadership and supporters across the state.
According to the party, the call is driven by growing doubts about the integrity and transparency of the electoral system under the current leadership of INEC.

The ADC said Nigerians must have full confidence in the commission for democracy to function properly. It added that trust in the electoral process is critical to free and fair elections.
It stressed that the credibility of elections depends largely on the independence and neutrality of the electoral umpire.
The party further established that recent developments have raised questions among its members and supporters which continuously lead to the demand for a change in leadership at the commission.
Despite its position, the ADC reaffirmed its commitment to peaceful and lawful engagement. It stated that it would continue to pursue its demands through democratic means.
The party also called on relevant authorities to take urgent steps to address public concerns and restore confidence in the electoral system.
The development is reflective of increasing pressure on electoral institutions as preparations for future elections begin to gather momentum.
The INEC leadership has yet to respond to the demand at the time of filing this report.
