Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has warned contractors handling public projects that mediocrity will not be tolerated, stressing that the State will insist on quality work that delivers value for taxpayers’ money.
During an inspection tour of the 14.5-kilometre Ndele/Omofo/Egamini/Agba-Ndele Road project in Emohua Local Government Area on Tuesday, Governor Fubara expressed dissatisfaction with the slow pace and substandard quality of work delivered by Messrs Stream Co. & Equipment Limited.
The Governor, who was accompanied by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Works, Dr. Austin Ezekiel-Hart, said his administration would take decisive action to ensure that public funds are not wasted on underperforming contractors.
“I can say here already that the contractor handling the road from the bridge to the East–West Road is not doing a good job. I’m not happy about it. When I get back, there will be a need to review that contract because I’m not impressed,” he stated.

While criticising the road contractor, Governor Fubara commended Setraco Nigeria Limited for the standard and pace of work on the 240-metre Agba-Ndele/Abua Bridge, describing it as a crucial link that will improve connectivity among Abua/Odual, Ahoada-East, and Emohua Local Government Areas.
He revealed that the bridge, inherited by his administration, is expected to be ready for use in early 2026.
The Governor emphasised that the bridge will reduce travel time, ease access to the East–West Road, and serve as a vital economic corridor for farmers and traders in the region.
“This bridge provides easy access for the Abua/Odual people to cross into Emohua, Agba-Ndele, and access the East–West Road in minutes,” he explained.
Fubara reiterated his administration’s commitment to executing people-oriented projects that strengthen commerce, enhance livelihoods, and promote balanced development across Rivers State.
He also disclosed plans to address the deplorable state of the Abua/Ahoada Road, which will be included in the 2026 state budget.
“Our vision is to connect the entire Rivers State together, especially communities that have challenges of access.
