The Police Service Commission (PSC) has approved the appointment of Assistant Inspector General of Police (AIG), Dankwara Mohammed, as a Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG), representing Nigeria’s North-East geopolitical zone.
Mohammed assumes the position following the recent retirement of DIG Sahabu Abubakar Yahaya.
The announcement was made in a statement released on Friday by Ikechukwu Ani, the PSC’s Head of Press and Public Relations. The Commission also confirmed a wide-ranging promotion exercise involving senior officers across various ranks of the Nigeria Police Force.
According to the statement, Commissioner of Police (CP), Abibo Deinma Reuben, has been promoted to the rank of Assistant Inspector General.
In addition, eleven Deputy Commissioners of Police (DCPs) have been elevated to the rank of substantive Commissioners of Police (CPs). The officers promoted include Naziru Bello Kankarofi, Nendel Joseph Gomwalk, Tijani Olaiwola Fatai, Wilson Aniefiok Akpan, Morkwap Dongshal, and Abdullateef Ajape Yusuf. Others are Cletus Nwadiogbu, who serves as Deputy Commissioner, Finance and Administration in Taraba State; Ahmed Mohammed Bello, Abdulraheem Nurudeen, Patrick Daaor, and Umar Mohammed Hadejia.
The Commission also approved the promotion of 13 Assistant Commissioners of Police to the rank of Deputy Commissioners, and 44 Chief Superintendents of Police to Assistant Commissioners.

Furthermore, 412 Superintendents were promoted to Chief Superintendents, while numerous Deputy Superintendents were confirmed as substantive Superintendents.
PSC Chairman, retired DIG Hashimu Argungu, congratulated the newly promoted officers and encouraged them to rededicate themselves to national service. He noted that promotion within the police hierarchy is not only a reward for merit and service but also comes with increased responsibility.
“These promotions are both a recognition of your dedication and a call to higher standards, the expectations are great, and the nation looks to you for improved policing and public safety,” Argungu said.
The announcement is part of ongoing restructuring and personnel development within the Nigeria Police Force, aimed at improving operational efficiency and enhancing law enforcement across the country.
