The Obidient Movement has extended its congratulations to Professor Joash Amupitan on his recent appointment as the Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), expressing optimism that his leadership will bring transformative changes to Nigeria’s electoral system.
In a joint statement signed by Nana Kazaure, Director of Strategic Communications and Media, and Yunusa Tanko, National Coordinator, the movement described Amupitan’s appointment as a potential turning point in the nation’s democratic journey.
“As we reflect on the experiences of past INEC chairmen, we are hopeful that your tenure will mark a significant milestone in the electoral history of Nigeria,” the statement read.
The movement, which gained momentum during Nigeria’s 2023 general elections, called for reforms under Amupitan’s leadership that would prioritise credibility, transparency, and fairness in future elections, especially with the 2027 general elections on the horizon.
“We look forward to seeing a new Electoral Act that will enhance the credibility, freedom, and fairness of our elections,” the statement continued.
The Obidient Movement also wished Amupitan a successful tenure, praying for “God’s guidance and protection” as he assumes one of the country’s most critical democratic roles.
“Congratulations once again, and we look forward to a new era of electoral excellence under your leadership.”
Professor Amupitan’s appointment has drawn attention across the political landscape, as Nigerians anticipate how he will steer INEC during a time of growing demand for electoral integrity and reform.
