Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, on Tuesday assessed the damage caused by a fire incident that occurred late Monday evening at a section of the State Secretariat Complex in Port Harcourt.
Nelson Chukwudi, Fubara’s Chief Press Secretary, in a statement said his principal, during his visit, promised the immediate commencement of rehabilitation work.
The fire, which the governor described as “unfortunate,” affected an area of the complex that serves as a creche for the children of civil servants.

Upon his arrival at the complex, Fubara was received by a large gathering of jubilant civil servants, the Head of Service, and several Permanent Secretaries, including the recently sworn-in Austin Ezekiel-Hart
Fubara expressed profound gratitude that no lives were lost and that the destruction was confined to only a small part of the building.
“I came here this morning to see for myself what happened yesterday. It’s really unfortunate, but we give God all the glory that no life was lost and the damage was only in one section,” the governor stated.
He indicated that the incident would serve as a catalyst to accelerate his administration’s existing plans to renovate and refurbish the entire secretariat complex.
“We’ve been talking about the renovation of our foremost secretariat. With this particular incident, there should be no further delay. Whatever is required by this government to commence that process, we will immediately swing into action,” Fubara assured the public.
The governor used the occasion to commend the State Fire Service for their rapid and effective response, attributing their success to the administration’s prior investments in the three fire service stations.

“Before the emergency rule, we took our time to invest in the fire service. I wonder what would have happened if we didn’t have a formidable and functional fire service,” he remarked.
Fubara appreciated the dedication and resilience of the civil servants, reaffirming his government’s commitment to initiatives focused on enhancing their welfare and the overall well-being of all Rivers people.
