Former President Muhammadu Buhari has expressed his profound sorrow over the death of the Chief of Army Staff, Lt. General Taoreed Lagbaja.
He praised him as a patriot and an exceptional officer who dedicated his service to the nation with the highest level of diligence.
In a statement following the official announcement of General Lagbaja’s passing, the former president conveyed his deep shock at the news, stating that the nation had lost one of its finest soldiers.
“As Commander-in-Chief, General Lagbaja stood out as one of the bravest officers, capturing my attention for his unwavering devotion to duty.
“Throughout various frontlines of internal security operations—Operation Zaki in Benue State, Lafiya Dole in Borno, Udoka in Southeast Nigeria, and Operation Forest Sanity across Kaduna and Niger States—General Lagbaja’s military prowess was indisputable. He left an indelible mark as a professional soldier and an inspiring commander wherever he served.”
The former president prayed for the repose of General Lagbaja’s soul, and for the Almighty to reward his courageous service to both the Nigerian Army and the nation.
President Buhari also extended his condolences to the late officer’s family, the Nigerian Army, President Bola Tinubu, the government, and the people of Nigeria.
