Troops of the Joint Task Force North-East, Operation Hadin Kai, have repelled an attempted cross-border attack by suspected ISWAP and Boko Haram fighters in the Kirawa axis of Borno State.
The incident reportedly occurred around 11pm on Thursday during ongoing Operation Desert Sanity V and Siege Operations.
According to counter-insurgency publication Zagazola Makama, the attackers attempted to infiltrate military positions from the Cameroon axis but were detected while advancing toward the area.
Military sources said troops immediately engaged the insurgents in a firefight, killing 12 fighters and forcing others to retreat across the border into Cameroon.

Several of the fleeing insurgents were also reportedly injured during the exchange of fire.
“The sources added that the operation was supported by intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance (ISR) assets as well as air component strikes and partner coordination,” the report stated.
Preliminary assessments indicated that 12 terrorists were neutralised, while one soldier sustained injuries during the encounter.
No equipment losses were recorded on the side of the troops, while several items were recovered from the attackers, including AK-47 rifles, RPG components, ammunition and assorted materials.
Military authorities said troops have maintained their positions in the area and are continuing follow-up operations to prevent regrouping of fleeing elements.
They added that the security situation in the axis remains calm but unpredictable, urging continued vigilance and sustained operational pressure across affected fronts.
