A 20-year-old student of the University of Lagos has told a Lagos State High Court sitting in Ikeja how a lecturer, Samuel Obinna Ojogbo, allegedly assaulted her in his office.
The student gave her testimony on Wednesday before Justice Oyindamola Ogala as the first prosecution witness in the ongoing trial.
The Lagos State Government is prosecuting Ojogbo on a two-count charge of rape and sexual assault.
Led in evidence by prosecution counsel A.O. Azeez, the witness said the incident occurred on August 22, 2025, at about noon on the university’s Akoka campus.
She recounted that a day earlier, while writing an examination, the defendant approached her and asked her to see him after the exam.
After unsuccessful attempts to meet him, she said she later encountered him again after another exam the following day, and he asked her to follow him to his office.
Describing the office as isolated, she told the court that while they were speaking, two female students briefly entered but were sent away.
She alleged that shortly after, the lecturer instructed her to close the door and then forced himself on her. She said she left the office in tears and immediately reported the incident to a friend.
The witness further told the court that she reported the matter to a lecturer in her department, who contacted her uncle, also a lecturer, before escalating it to the Head of the Department. She alleged that the matter was initially downplayed at that level.
She said the case was later reported to the UNILAG SERVICOM unit, after which she was taken to a medical centre for examination. The matter was subsequently reported to the Lagos State Domestic and Sexual Violence Agency and then to the police, including the Gender Unit, for investigation.
According to her, there were later attempts by the defendant’s family and associates to settle.
Justice Ogala, however, adjourned the case until April 27, 2026, for cross-examination of the witness.
