The Management of Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida University (IBBUL), Lapai, has denied any involvement in the reported death of a 300-level Computer Science student, Kelvin Danlami, following claims circulating on social media that the incident was linked to a house rent dispute.
In a statement issued on Tuesday by the Deputy Registrar, Information, Baba Akote, the University said it was “not aware of, and was not a party to any financial or rental transaction between the deceased student and the landlord in question.”

According to the statement, the matter “relates to a private arrangement entirely outside the academic and administrative operations of the institution.”
While noting that investigations are ongoing, the University Management cautioned against speculation, urging the public to avoid spreading unverified information that could “further traumatize the family, friends, and the University community.”
“The University Management wishes to remind all students that their primary purpose in the Institution is to pursue their academic programmes with diligence and discipline,” the statement said.
Students were also advised to “avoid involvement in questionable transactions or activities that may expose them to financial, legal, or psychological distress.”
The Management assured the general public of its readiness to cooperate fully with security agencies, stating that it would “ensure that a proper and transparent investigation is carried out to unravel the circumstances surrounding the mysterious death.”
