Five people have been charged with murder following the death of a man at a petrol station in Seaham, County Durham, police have confirmed.
Daniel Ambler, 23, died at the scene after a collision at the Asda Express service station on Thursday 15 January. Durham Constabulary launched a murder investigation shortly after the incident.
Police said Barry Anderson, 51, Ashton Anderson, 19, and Barry Logan Anderson, 18, have each been charged with murder and violent disorder.
In addition, two 17-year-old boys, who cannot be named for legal reasons, have also been charged with murder and violent disorder.
All five defendants are due to appear before Newton Aycliffe Magistrates’ Court on Monday.
Detective Chief Inspector Chris Woollett said there would be an increased police presence in the area as enquiries continue, but reassured residents that the incident was not believed to pose any wider risk to the public.
“We believe this was an isolated incident and have no information to suggest there is any ongoing danger to the community,” he said, adding that officers’ thoughts remained with Mr Ambler’s family and friends.
In a statement, Mr Ambler’s family described him as a “kind-hearted soul” and said his death had left them devastated. They paid tribute to him as a much-loved son and brother with a great sense of humour who brought laughter to those around him.
Durham Constabulary has appealed for anyone with information or relevant dashcam footage to contact the force.
