The Lagos State Government has announced plans to host the landmark 10th anniversary of the #Greater Lagos Countdown, a two-day celebration scheduled for Tuesday, December 30, and Wednesday, December 31, 2025.
This year’s edition, themed “Legends of Afrobeats,” is uniquely dedicated to the pioneers and icons who built the foundation of Nigeria’s globally dominant music genre.
The event aims to honour the creators who projected Nigeria’s cultural identity to the international stage while fostering youth engagement and economic stimulation.

To ensure all Lagosians can participate, the Commissioner for Tourism, Arts and Culture, Toke Benson-Awoyinka, revealed that the festivities will take place simultaneously across six strategic hubs starting from 7:00 p.m. daily.
The Lagos Island division will hold its event at Tafawa Balewa Square (TBS), while the Ikeja division will meet at Agege Stadium.
The Ikorodu division’s venue is Ikorodu Town Hall, and the Badagry division will convene at Badagry Grammar School.
In Epe, activities will take place at the Epe Recreation Centre, and the Ajegunle division will gather at the Nathaniel Idowu Football Pitch in Oregẹ.
Benson-Awoyinka described the countdown as more than just a New Year’s Eve party; it is now a “cultural movement” that reflects the resilience and creativity of the state.
“Lagos continues to set the pace as Africa’s leading creative and entertainment destination,” she stated.
“This celebration speaks to legacy, continuity, and inspiration for the next generation of creatives.”
The 10th-anniversary edition promises an unforgettable experience. It will feature electrifying performances from both legendary icons and contemporary superstars.

The state government has invited residents and visitors to join the historic celebration.
While most venues offer open access to foster communal unity, specific details and tickets for premium experiences can be found at tix.africa/lagoscountdown2026.
As the heartbeat of Afrobeats, Lagos is prepared to leave no stone unturned in terms of security and logistics, engaging the Police, LASTMA, and other emergency services to ensure a safe transition into the New Year.
