The Ogun State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has vehemently dismissed a press conference held by Senator Gbenga Daniel’s media team, branding it a “sham” and accusing the senator of disseminating falsehoods regarding his suspension from the party.
In a statement issued by the Ogun APC Director of Publicity, Adesanya Olufemi, the party alleged that the individuals presented at the briefing as APC leaders from Ogun East were not recognised by the organisation.
“The list of people his team is calling ‘APC leaders’ in Ogun East is fake,” Olufemi declared.
“These individuals are actually coordinators for his Gateway Foundation… Not a single Ward Chairman or Local Government Chairman is on that list.”
The APC further challenged Daniel’s assertions about his ward affiliation, citing records from the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) which confirm he hails from Ward 04 in Sagamu Local Government.
“That easily puts a lie to the fraudulent submission of OGD’s spokesperson on the status of his ward,” the statement asserted.
According to the party, due process was meticulously observed in suspending the senator. Reports from his ward and local government were duly submitted and endorsed by the respective chairmen and secretaries.
“The senator was found culpable for working against the party by his own ward,” it emphasised.
Dismissing attempts to externalise the dispute, the APC described the matter as purely internal and accused Daniel’s supporters of politicising it ahead of the 2027 elections.
It highlighted that the same State Working Committee (SWC) now criticised by Daniel’s camp had previously ratified his senatorial candidacy without objection from him.
“Pray, when this very same State Working Committee that he now says are ‘compromised’ ratified his candidacy for the Senate, did he complain then?” the statement questioned.
The party noted that the appeal window has expired, adding: “If the Daniel wailers want to wail, that’s their right… They can sustain their appeal on social media.”
It also queried Daniel’s engagement with the party since his election, asking whether his purported leaders had attended ward meetings or if he had held feedback sessions in his constituency.
Reaffirming its stance, the Ogun APC declared that Daniel’s suspension remains in force unless overturned through appropriate internal mechanisms.
