The embattled National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Umar Damagum, has petitioned the Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Kayode Egbetokun, over an alleged violent invasion of the party’s national secretariat by suspended National Secretary, Senator Samuel Anyanwu.
In the petition dated November 3, 2025, Damagum alleged that Anyanwu led a group of armed thugs to the party’s Wadata Plaza headquarters in Abuja in a bid to forcefully install a factional leadership.
He claimed the invasion was coordinated with the backing of the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, and involved several suspended PDP officials, including Abdulrahman Mohammed (Vice Chairman, North Central), Kamaldeen Ajibade (National Legal Adviser), Okechukwu Osuoha (Deputy Legal Adviser), and Umaru Bature (National Organising Secretary).
“To our utmost surprise and shock, on Monday, November 3, 2025, the suspended Sen. Samuel Anyanwu violently invaded the National Secretariat of our party with thugs mobilised by his aides, brandishing dangerous weapons including guns, knives, cutlasses, and sticks,” Damagum alleged in the petition.
He further stated that the attackers broke into offices, unleashed violence on staff, fired tear gas, and assaulted journalists covering the incident.
“A female staff member who could not withstand the tear gas suffocated and was later resuscitated. Three staff are currently in hospital receiving treatment for various injuries,” he said, listing the victims as Mr. Terna Tergba, Mrs. Cecilia Ukwayi, and Innocent Ezekiel.
Damagum alleged that the assailants attempted to forcefully install Abdulrahman Mohammed as Acting National Chairman before police operatives restored order at the scene.
The petition urged the police chief to investigate the incident thoroughly and bring all perpetrators to justice to prevent further breakdown of law and order within the party.
