Former National Officer of the Labour Party, Kenneth Okonkwo, has accused the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) of deploying intimidation tactics to stifle opposition activities in the build-up to Nigeria’s 2027 general elections.
Speaking during an interview on Arise Television’s Morning Show on Monday, Mr Okonkwo alleged that the African Democratic Congress (ADC), his current political platform, has been repeatedly targeted while holding meetings across various states.
“ADC is on fire. The only thing is that we have an APC that is using every method to intimidate and scatter the plans of the opposition,” he stated.
The actor-turned-politician cited incidents in Kaduna, Lagos, and Ekiti States, where ADC gatherings were allegedly disrupted by thugs purportedly acting under the supervision of security agencies.
Mr Okonkwo accused the APC of manipulating state institutions, particularly the security agencies, to frustrate opposition parties—actions he said contravened the Electoral Act, which guarantees equal protection and political space for all parties.

“The APC is using every means available to suppress the opposition. This is not democracy; this is intimidation,” he asserted.
Despite the alleged challenges, Okonkwo expressed optimism about his party’s prospects, declaring that the ADC would form the next federal government. He described the APC as a party “already imploding” under the weight of internal contradictions.
“ADC is going to form the next government of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. We are strategising, and we are going to beat this APC. They are already imploding because all these endorsements are just an amalgamation of sycophants,” he said.
As political tensions rise ahead of the 2027 polls, Okonkwo’s comments add to growing concerns among opposition figures about the fairness of Nigeria’s electoral environment and the independence of state institutions tasked with safeguarding democracy.
