Super Eagles and Galatasaray striker Victor Osimhen has been nominated for the CAF Player of the Year award for the second time.
The one time CAF player of the year scored 35 goals for both club and country in the 2024/25 football calendar, placing him at the top contenders for the CAF Player of the Year award.
Other notable contenders for the award include Egyptian and Liverpool star Mohamed Salah, along with Moroccan and Paris Saint-Germain defender Achraf Hakimi.
The list of nominees also features Cameroonian midfielder Frank Anguissa, Congolese midfielder Fiston Mayele, Gabonese midfielder Denis Bouanga, Guinean Serhou Guirassy, Moroccan Oussama Lamlioui, and the Senegalese duo of Iliman Ndiaye and Pape Matar Sarr.
The Confederation of African Football (CAF) announced the nominees for the 2025 CAF Awards in the men’s categories on Thursday. The awards celebrate the continent’s top performers among players, coaches, clubs, and national teams.
“The impact of players and coaches on African and global football has been immense during the period from January 6 to October 15, 2025. These nominations reflect those who have made significant contributions to football on the continent,” stated CAF in a press release.
Speaking on the selection of the nominees CAF also noted that a panel of experts, which includes members of the CAF Technical & Development Committee, experienced coaches, CAF Legends, and selected media representatives, determined the 10 nominees for each category based on performances across all competitions.
Additionally, Super Eagles goalkeeper Stanley Nwabali has been nominated for the Goalkeeper of the Year award. He will compete against Yassine Bounou of Morocco, Ronwen Williams of South Africa, André Onana of Cameroon, and Edouard Mendy of Senegal for this prestigious title.
Other award categories include Interclub Player of the Year, Coach of the Year, Young Player of the Year, National Team of the Year, and Club of the Year.
In the men’s category, Daniel Bameyi represents Nigeria as a Young Player nominee.
