The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has cautioned Nigerians against registering multiple times during the upcoming Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise, warning that violators will face severe consequences, including complete removal from the voter register.
Alhaji Mohammed Sadiq, INEC’s Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) in Plateau State, issued the warning during a meeting with key stakeholders ahead of the CVR’s nationwide resumption.
“Voter registration is not only a fundamental right but also a duty of every eligible citizen of Nigeria. No individual can vote in an election unless they are duly registered,” Sadiq said.
He urged all Nigerians aged 18 and above who have not yet registered to seize the opportunity to obtain their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs).
“The commission will not accept multiple registrations; anyone attempting such an act risks being completely delisted from the register,” he added.

The REC explained that the CVR exercise would commence on 18 August, with an online registration portal available to all.
“Online registration can take place anywhere and at any time. The website to visit is http://www.crv.inecnigeria.org,” Sadiq said.
The exercise targets new voters who have reached voting age, as well as those seeking to collect, transfer, or replace lost or damaged PVCs.
Additionally, the commission has put measures in place to prevent non-Nigerians from participating in the exercise.
Sadiq called on traditional rulers, religious leaders, political parties, and other stakeholders to encourage eligible residents to take part in the CVR.
“This exercise is vital for strengthening Nigeria’s democracy and ensuring every eligible voter has a voice,” he concluded.
