Marcus Rashford is expected to return to Manchester United training on Monday, marking the beginning of what could be a pivotal summer in the 27-year-old’s career. After a turbulent season that saw him loaned out to Aston Villa following a fallout with manager Ruben Amorim, Rashford’s Old Trafford future remains unresolved.
Rashford, who has been with United since the age of seven, spent the second half of the 2024-25 season on loan at Villa Park after being frozen out by Amorim in December. During his short spell at Aston Villa, the England international made 17 appearances, scoring four goals and registering six assists. Villa had an option to make the deal permanent for £40 million, but the Midlands club have not pursued it, and no bids have been made for the forward so far.
Despite suggestions earlier this year that he would not play for Amorim again, sources close to Rashford now say he has no problem returning for pre-season. United’s preparations begin Monday, ahead of a packed schedule that starts with a friendly against Leeds United in Stockholm on July 19, followed by matches in the United States as part of the Premier League Summer Series.
Rashford’s dramatic exile followed a series of disagreements with Amorim, who was appointed midway through last season. The Portuguese coach, known for his tactical discipline and high standards, struggled to bring the forward in line with his training expectations.
“I couldn’t get Marcus to see the way you’re supposed to play football and to train the way I see it,” Amorim said in February, confirming the growing rift between manager and player.
