In honour of World Suicide Prevention Day, Nigerian comedienne Anita Alaire Afoke Asuoha, aka Real Warri Pikin, recounted a personal story of how her spouse fell into debt after following the advice of a motivational speaker.
In a post on her Instagram page on Wednesday, she revealed that when having financial difficulties, a motivational speaker who met with her husband persuaded him to try numerous enterprises.
She said her husband was motivated to try many initiatives to achieve financial success, but the attempts resulted in the family going into debt of N22 million.
She disclosed attempting suicide on June 6, 2018 but was spared by a neighbour’s quick intervention.
According to her, she is sharing her story to prevent others from considering suicide, underlining that life’s troubles are only transitory and that seeking help and clinging to faith can provide the power to overcome them.
“I tried suicide so you don’t have to, in 2018, June 6, 3 pm to be precise, I attempted suicide, I gave up on life because the burden was too much.
“Life just dey hit me left right and center, life dey turn me round like barber chair. And I felt like the only way to escape is to end the pain,” she said in part in a video clip shared on her Instagram account.
Real Warri Pikin married Victor Ikechukwu Asuoha in 2013, and they have three children. In 2023, the comic queen and her heartthrob renewed their wedding vows by celebrating their 10-year anniversary.
