The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has shared new reform plans to fix Nigeria’s economy and security.
The party’s National Chairman, Senator David Mark, presented these plans in Abuja during a meeting about the party’s new policy and manifesto.
Mark said these plans are not just empty political talk. He explained that the ADC wants to help Nigerians by focusing on the people first.
The party believes Nigeria must lead Africa, but it can only do this by empowering its own citizens.
A committee led by the former Governor of Edo State, Chief John Odigie-Oyegun, handled the report.
Mark praised the committee for working hard to address the country’s biggest problems.
One major plan is to change how the government handles reforms. Mark said that past reforms often hurt poor people because they happened “abruptly”.
The ADC wants “gradual and sequenced” reforms that protect vulnerable people.
The party also noted that people who are struggling to survive will not pay taxes.
Mark revealed, “Another principle that stands out for me is that survival income must not be taxed.”
Mark said it is unfair to tax people who already pay for their own electricity and security.
He argued that the rich should carry more of the tax burden instead.
The ADC also proposed a new law called the “Social Protection Act”, believing that it is important because “social protection should not depend on political cycles. It must be institutionalised.”
On security, the party promised “swift and credible justice outcomes”.
Mark noted that kidnappers and bandits often escape justice. To stop this, the ADC proposed to label kidnapping and banditry as “terrorism”.
This would allow the government to give the “harshest possible punishment” to those caught.
Mark stated that all ADC members running for office in 2027 must follow these rules. He said the party will not allow officials to do whatever they want with power.
