The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has declared a nationwide special road patrol to keep travellers safe during the 2026 Eid-El-Fitri celebrations.
From 17 to 22 March the agency is deploying officers and equipment across all major Nigerian highways to prevent accidents and help traffic flow smoothly.
The FRSC noted that the festive period always brings a massive increase in vehicles on the road as families travel to meet loved ones.
To handle this, the Corps has moved from regular shifts to a 24-hour operation.
According to a statement from the Corps Public Education Officer, Felicia Kalu, the FRSC is not just watching the roads; they are prepared for emergencies.
The agency has ordered the stationing of ambulances, tow trucks, and patrol motorbikes at critical points.
This ensures that if a breakdown or a crash happens, help arrives immediately to stop traffic jams before they start.
Officers have been told to strictly watch out for: drivers going too fast; overloading vehicles with too many people or goods; drivers using mobile phones while behind the wheel; people driving the wrong way.
It was maintained that the goal is “voluntary compliance”.
This suggests that the FRSC wants drivers to follow rules because they understand the danger, not just because they see a uniform.
To help with this, the National Traffic Radio (107.1FM) will give live updates and suggest alternative routes to drivers.
Security agencies like the Police and the Civil Defence Corps are also working with the FRSC to maintain order.
The FRSC urged Nigerians to call the toll-free number “122” or “0700-CALL-FRSC”, if there are emergency cases.
