Lagos State’s All Progressives Congress (APC) is mourning the sudden death of its newly elected Assistant Publicity Secretary, Yesiro Karamo, just hours before he was due to be inaugurated.
Karamo was elected to the position at the Lagos State APC congress on Tuesday, held at Mobolaji Johnson Stadium, Onikan, Lagos, under the leadership of Chairman Cornelius Ojelabi. His tenure was to begin alongside other state executive council members on Thursday at the party secretariat.
In a statement released on Thursday, the party described Karamo’s passing as “a painful and tragic loss to our great party at a time when his energy, commitment, and passion for progressive politics were most needed.”
The Lagos APC noted Karamo’s contributions to the party’s growth and stability in Lagos State, which led to his emergence as Assistant Publicity Secretary.
The statement reads, “Though his tenure was tragically cut short, his enthusiasm, humility, and readiness to serve left a lasting impression on colleagues and members alike.”
The party reaffirmed its unity in mourning the loss of Karamo.
The statement adds, “He was a vibrant party man whose contributions to the growth and stability of the APC in Lagos State will not be forgotten. The Lagos APC stands united in mourning this painful departure.”
Karamo’s death comes at a critical moment for the Lagos APC as it prepares for the new executive council to assume office. The party’s Publicity Secretary, Seye Oladejo, confirmed the loss to PUNCH Online.
