President Bola Tinubu has acknowledged that his administration assumed leadership of Nigeria at a pivotal moment in the nation’s history.

In his Independence Day address to the nation on Tuesday, President Tinubu highlighted the significant challenges his government faced upon taking office.

He noted that the economy was struggling against numerous headwinds, while national security had been severely compromised.

The President described Nigeria as standing at a ‘dizzying crossroads’ forced to choose between two stark paths: one of reform, progress, and prosperity, or the other of continuing the status quo, risking collapse.

In response to these challenges, Mr Tinubu said his administration chose the path of reform, committing to overhauling both the political economy and the country’s defence structures.

“On the security front, I am happy to announce to you, my compatriots, that our administration is winning the war on terror and banditry. Our target is to eliminate all the threats of Boko Haram, banditry, kidnapping for ransom, and the scourge of all forms of violent extremism.

“Within one year, our government has eliminated Boko Haram and bandit commanders faster than ever. As of the last count, over 300 Boko Haram and bandit commanders have been eliminated by our gallant troops in the Northeast, Northwest, and some other parts of the country”, Mr Tinubu said.
