Human rights activist and public commentator, Mahdi Shehu, has cautioned that the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) risks suffering the same political downfall that ended the Peoples Democratic Party’s (PDP) 16-year dominance in Nigeria.
In a post shared on his official X (formerly Twitter) account on Tuesday morning, Shehu accused the APC of displaying arrogance and injustice, warning that “power built on oppression cannot endure.”
“Whatever goes up must surely come down. Just as PDP rose and fell after its years of pride and betrayal, APC is now walking the same path,” he wrote.
Shehu recalled a 2008 statement by former PDP National Chairman, Vincent Ogbulafor, who boldly declared that the PDP would rule Nigeria for 60 years. According to him, the party’s eventual collapse was proof that no political structure is immune to the consequences of hubris and misrule.

“God showed them who truly owns power. The same will happen to APC if they don’t change,” he added.
The activist accused the ruling party of weakening state institutions, intimidating citizens, and neglecting the needs of ordinary Nigerians. Such conduct, he warned, breeds resentment and could lead to the party’s downfall.
Quoting the Bible, Shehu wrote: “Psalm 37:10 says, ‘A little while, and the wicked will be no more; though you look for them, they will not be found.’”
Shehu’s comments have sparked discussions online, with many users echoing his criticism of Nigeria’s political elite and calling for reforms to restore accountability and good governance.
