The Lagos State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has, on Thursday, said there is no plan to impose candidates for the coming legislative elections and assured members that “internal democracy” will be followed.
The party in a statement signed by the state chairman, Cornelius Ojelabi, rejected reports that claimed there was a secret plan to pick candidates.
The party labelled the information as false and said it was “nothing more than a desperate fabrication” and “a reckless exercise in mischief.”

The Lagos APC made it clear that the claim was not true.
The statement read, “There is no plot, no clandestine meetings, and no predetermined list of candidates.”
The party said that the report flying around was created to make people believe there was a crisis in the party when there was none.
They explained that the source of the report was not known to the party, describing the group behind it as “faceless and self-styled.”
Also, the party said that the people behind the false report were trying to create tension and mislead members, noting that they were using “propaganda, blackmail, and anonymous media sensationalism” to push their claims.
The Lagos APC said it has alerted security agencies and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and warned that some individuals were acting as “political mischief-makers” who want to destabilise the system.
On how candidates will emerge, the party said it will follow the law, stating that “Where consensus cannot be reached… there shall be direct primaries.”
The Lagos APC stressed that no false report will change the party’s stand.
“No amount of sponsored misinformation… will alter the party’s firm commitment to due process and internal democracy.”
The party urged members and the public to ignore the report and disregard “faceless groups and political opportunists” who spread false alarm.
The Lagos APC assured members that “internal democracy will prevail” and that the final choice of candidates will come from party members through a clear and open process.
