The Bayelsa State Government has partnered with the Ministry of Marine and Blue Economy to promote sectoral development within the state.

Governor Douye Diri shared via his X account that he recently met with the Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, Adegboyega Oyetola, to discuss plans aimed at diversifying the state’s economy.

He said central to this effort is the establishment of the Bayelsa State Ministry of Marine and Blue Economy.

Governor Diri also noted that his administration is committed to leveraging the state’s maritime resources, with plans to invest significantly in aquaculture.

He said: “Today in Abuja, I had a very fruitful and rewarding meeting with the Honourable Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, His Excellency, Adegboyega Oyetola, to seek partnership on the development of that sector in Bayelsa State. The plans by the Federal Government, as espoused by the minister, to develop a strategic document and blueprint for the Ministry is a welcome initiative.

“I seized the opportunity of the meeting to reopen discussion on the Federal Government’s approval for the development of the Deep Seaport in Agge community, Ekeremor Local Government Area and I am glad that the disposition of the Honourable Minister to this project is very positive. As a government, we are already building road infrastructures to hit the Atlantic Ocean at Agge, Brass, and Koluama across the three Senatorial Districts of the State.”

Governor Diri stated that a team, led by the Commissioner of Marine and Blue Economy, Faith Izibenua Zibs-Godwin, along with the Director-General of the Bayelsa Investment Promotion Agency (BIPA), Patience Ranami Abah, will actively pursue all discussions with the Ministry of Marine and Blue Economy to ensure timely implementation.
