Interior Minister Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo on Monday reaffirmed the Tinubu administration’s commitment to proactive border management, emphasising its importance in addressing emerging challenges to national security.

Tunji-Ojo made this statement while presiding over a presentation on the newly developed Integrated Border Management System for the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS).

In a statement on his X page, the minister said the NIS’s integrated system brings together expertise to bolster national security while ensuring the smooth facilitation of legitimate travel both in and out of Nigeria.

He said: “At the centre of this system is our e-Gate facility that is designed (amongst other responsibilities) to automate our vetting processes and reduce passengers’ wait time during their entry into the country.

“By embracing technology and collaboration, we aim to create a secure, efficient, and traveller-friendly environment that supports Nigeria’s economic and social growth. Our vision is to establish a modern, effective, and efficient Immigration Service, confidently manned by well-trained and motivated personnel.”

The former House of Representatives member urged Nigerians to be patient as the government move forward with the implementation of the new structure.
