Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has extended warm greetings to the Muslim community as they begin the sacred month of Ramadan.
Describing Ramadan as a time for spiritual renewal, self-discipline, and acts of kindness, the Governor urged Lagosians and Nigerians at large to embrace generosity and support one another throughout the fasting period.
Sanwo-Olu highlighted the unique coincidence of Ramadan beginning on March 1, aligning closely with the Christian Lenten season, which starts on March 5.
He called on both Muslims and Christians to uphold the values of peace, harmony, and mutual respect, reinforcing Lagos as a place where diverse faiths coexist in unity.
“Ramadan Mubarak to all our Muslim brothers and sisters. This holy month is an opportunity for deep reflection, spiritual growth, and acts of charity. May this period bring peace, prosperity, and divine blessings to all,” Sanwo-Olu said.

“Let us use this season to foster compassion, extend kindness to the less privileged, and strengthen the bonds of unity.
“Lagos is home to people of all faiths, and in this period of devotion, we pray for continued progress and harmony across our state and beyond.”
The governor delivered this message at a Special Ramadan Prayer held at the Lagos House Mosque Ground in Ikeja and encouraged Lagosians to let the essence of Ramadan shape their daily interactions and relationships.
He emphasised that the season is a time for seeking divine guidance and upholding moral values.
“This season reminds us of the importance of faith, patience, and righteousness. It is a time for self-examination, strengthening our connection with God, and promoting peace in our communities,” he said.
Sanwo-Olu also noted the significance of March 1 marking both the start of a new month and the beginning of Ramadan, urging people of all faiths to coexist in peace and understanding.
