Edo State Governor, Monday Okpebholo, has taken decisive action following the gruesome killing of several travellers in Uromi, Esan North East Local Government Area.
Governor Okpebholo ordered the immediate suspension of all illegal vigilante groups operating under any guise within the state.
Additionally, he suspended the Commander of the Edo State Security Corps, retired Commissioner of Police Friday Ibadin
Umar Musa Ikhilor, the Secretary to the State Government disclosed this in a statement, emphasising that the vigilante group responsible for the tragic incident was operating illegally, as it was neither registered nor profiled under the Edo State Security Corps.
The administration distanced itself from the group’s actions, stating that they do not reflect the values, character, or objectives of the Okpebholo government or the Security Corps Governance Law.

Authorities have already arrested 14 individuals in connection with the killings, while a special team set up by the Inspector General of Police is conducting an intense manhunt for other suspects. Investigations are ongoing.
The state government reaffirmed its commitment to protecting the constitutional rights of all citizens, including the freedom of movement and lawful business activities.
It also assured the public that it is in communication with the families of the victims, community leaders, and the Government of Kano State, as most of the deceased are reportedly from Kano.
Governor Okpebholo’s administration called for calm and pledged a transparent, efficient, and proactive approach to ensuring justice for the victims.
On March 27 the attack, travelers were ambushed and killed by an unrecognized vigilante group in what security analysts describe as an alarming case of extrajudicial violence.
