Rivers State Administrator, Vice Admiral Ibok-Ete Ibas (rtd), has emphasised the economic significance of the ongoing Trans-Kalabari Road Project, describing it as a crucial initiative to improve connectivity and address the economic challenges faced by riverine communities.
During an inspection tour yesterday, Ibas visited the project site in Rumuolumeni and also assessed the Permanent Secretaries’ Quarters in Rumuokwurushi, both in Obio/Akpor Local Government Area.
He stressed the need for the timely completion of these infrastructure projects, citing their potential to enhance economic activities in Rivers State and beyond.
Acknowledging the difficult terrain that has long hindered movement between communities, Ibas expressed confidence that the new road would serve as a game-changer for trade and development.

“This project is a major step towards bridging the gap between communities, easing transportation challenges, and boosting economic activities. Once completed, it will significantly impact the state’s overall development,” he said.
He urged contractors to adhere to the agreed timelines, noting that the government had fulfilled its financial obligations to ensure smooth progress.
At the Permanent Secretaries’ Quarters, Ibas also highlighted the importance of providing quality housing for civil servants, emphasising that proper accommodation would improve their efficiency at work.
“We recognize the housing difficulties faced by many civil servants. The government is committed to ensuring that these accommodations are delivered on schedule, allowing public servants to focus on their responsibilities without distractions,” he added.
Reaffirming his commitment to a peaceful and progressive Rivers State, Ibas assured residents that his administration’s initiatives were designed to bring long-term benefits to the people.
