Veteran Nollywood actress Ayo Adesanya has raised concerns over the increasing obsession with artificial beauty in the entertainment industry.
She cautioned that popular cosmetic trends, such as the Brazilian Butt Lift (BBL), might not stand the test of time.
Speaking with The Nation newspaper at a recent movie premiere, Adesanya shared her thoughts on the growing influence of beauty enhancements in Nollywood. While she acknowledged their current popularity, she insisted that originality still holds significant value.
“I have realized that people take superficial things too seriously these days. Artificial beauty seems to be what is selling,” she said. “But if you look closely, there are still many people who appreciate originality. As an actor, you must decide what works for you. A few years from now, BBL may no longer be in demand because change is constant. Many trends have come and gone, and this one will likely fade too.”
True talent should come first
Adesanya emphasised that an actor’s talent should always take precedence over physical appearance. She advised entertainers to focus on improving their craft rather than altering their looks to stay relevant.
“If you are talented, things like BBL should not define you. When you have real value to offer, you will understand that talent is far more important than artificial beauty. Not every movie is about looks,” she stated.
The actress believes that authenticity and skill are the keys to long-term success in Nollywood. She urged aspiring actors to invest in their abilities rather than feeling pressured to conform to beauty standards.
